Thread: HDMI monitor not working with OpenSuse Live CD.

  1. #1

Default HDMI monitor not working with OpenSuse Live CD.

I have an open suse 11.1 live CD. When I insert it into my computer and restart it, the screen displays a "No Signal" message.
I'm pretty sure the CD loads because I see the CD reading light blinking and I also hear the CD turning inside the drive.
There's nothing wrong with the CD because I've used it on other computers.
The monitor does work when a normal VGA cable is used. The problem only arises with an HDMI connection.
    Doesn't opensuse support HDMI?

    Hi
    The purpose of the live CD is to;

"The Live-CD's/DVD's of openSUSE have a promotional effort and can be
tested without changing something on the actual machine or installed
operating system. Though you can install openSUSE directly from these
Live-CD's their first attempt is to demonstrate the quality and
    stability of openSUSE."

Now, I would imagine depending on your video card it probably needs a
proprietary driver to enable the HDMI capability.

    What is your video card?

    It's an nVIDIA 7100..
If it's a question of drivers how do I get the live CD to run?

Malcolm is right. You need the proprietary driver to get HDMI support enabled. Since the Live-CD's cannot keep settings, it's no use to try to install the driver; it'll be gone at next boot.
