Default Only Connect to Internet Through Router

    Hey Everyone,

I go to Rutgers University and half way through the semester my laptop stopped connecting to the internet. I am using opensuse 11.0. My roommate also uses opensuse and he had the same problem on or around the same date.

We found that if we connect through a linksys router, we are able to connect to the Rutgers network. Connection without the router works using different operating systems (e.g. OS X, Windows XP/Vista). Rutgers doesn't support linux so they won't give me any help.

    Any Ideas?
    Mike

Compare the differences between your router's settings on the school
network and your own machines' settings on the school network. Assuming
you are plugged in either way your router and machine should both have the
same "Gateway" and "DNS/NameServer" information, though they should have
unique IP addresses in most cases. Post the following from your system as
well as from any other system on the network that is working (while
    plugged into the school network):

    ip addr
    ip route
    cat /etc/resolv.conf

Also try some various tests like pinging by DNS name as well as IP
address. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 are usually pingable. Also
74.125.127.100 currently resolves to Google and response to pings.

    Good luck.
