Default OpenOffice Writer completely messed up :-(

    Hi!
    I use OpenSUSE 11.1 32bits with KDE4.3.0 and Compiz.

    I have OpenOffice3.1 Norwegian

I was trying to open an attachment from mail and this destoyed the Writer completely.
If i try to start Writer, Only a border shows up at the top of the desktop. Its like the whole Writer crashed and the Title-meny remain but without any title nor buttons. Its impossible to remove it without using KILL on prosess soffice.bin
    Only soffice.bin exist in prosesslist.

I uninstalled Writer and installed it back again, but the problem still remain.
Maybe i need til uninstall the whole OpenOffice and remove any config/temporary files and then reinstall it all back again.

Anyone that have experienced the same?

Forgot to mention that all other OpenOffice-apps work fine! Calc, Draw and Base start up as normal.

Is this an OpenOffice-problem, or is it a OpenSUSE-problem?

i'd guess there is something inside your home's hidden
    ..ooo-3[something] directory....but, i'd have NO idea what..

you might TRY adding an new TEST user, and log into that account and
see if Writer runs as you expect...if so, that pretty much proves it
is something in YOUR home directory that is broken..

a YaST uninstall and reinstall will NOT delete all *your*
    settings....REMEMBER, Linux is a MULTI-user system...how would it be
if all users lost all their settings every time the system
administrator decided to upgrade a package like OpenOffice?

Default SOLVED (Re: OpenOffice Writer completely messed up :-()

    Hi!
    Thanks!

I tried first with a new user and then it works. Then i moved away the .ooo3-folder from my home-directory and let OO create a new one. Now it works again.

    :-)

i have no idea and would guess learning the answer to that Q could be
    quite a project:

    - compare every file in .ooo3-folder.BAD with its counterpart in
    ..ooo3-folder.GOOD

then look at the variations and scratch your head until _the_ answer
comes to you....i think i have better things to do....but, maybe there
is a Noble Prize in it for you!!

In case you are going to search for the differences, I hope you know that the tool diff might help you here. And of course small shell script that loops through all files within .ooo*

Don't bother trying to compare by hand, use diff.
