Default KDE 4.3 official for opensuse 11.1 ?

    Hi,

Is KDE 4.3 now officialy released for opensuse 11.1 ?
On the KDE.ORG pages I can see that 4.3 has been released and that packages exists for several distro's amongst which is opensuse.

But when I check on the opensuse pages all I see is that they speak about Factory development version that might contain bugs.

I don't want bugs, I want a final released en correct functioning version.

Is that what I can expect from the Factory repo of 4.3 ?

If you download the KDE4.3 Live CD from the KDE page, you will get a stable version of 11.1; it will automatically update itself when you make your first additional software installation.

    It's fine.

are you saying the you expect the "final released en correct
functioning version" will be bug free???

if so, would you also like to buy the Brooklyn Bridge--i just happen
to have the deed and will FedEx it overnight to you upon confirmation
of your LARGE deposit to my offshore account. ;-)

I know that there is no such thing as bugfree software, but what I don't want is a KDE that is being worked on to make it fancier and better for the upcoming opensuse version while adding new stuff that might break other stuff that is supposed to be working just fine on other distro's for example.

    That's what I mean.

The official KDE release for openSUSE-11.1 is KDE-4.1.3. And that is buggy.

There are factory releases, but they too can have their bugs.

As John Hudson notes, there is a KDE-4.3 live CD put together for the openSUSE community, by the openSUSE community, and it is reasonably stable "KDE Four Live" CD , but it is NOT an official openSUSE release. But it DOES work with all openSUSE-11.1 software/applications.

So in Summary, THERE IS NO OFFICIAL OPENSUSE KDE-4.3 for openSUSE-11.1 !!

    I hope that is clear.

Having typed that, I do recommend the KDE-4.3 openSUSE community live CD. "KDE Four Live" CD Its very good.

    To my mind:-

    Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1

is more than fine. If you add this to your repo - you will end up with 4.3 that works excellently. No problems or bugs (that I have come against).

you can rest assured that it WILL be in the process "being worked on
to make it fancier and better for the upcoming" SLED version..

and, you can expect it WILL break things that work on non-Novell
    associated version...

that is what openSUSE is all about: producing SLED and SLES...

we ARE the place where Novell learns of the bugs that cause
problems...they are fixed (11.0), and fixed (11.1) and fixed (11.2)
and fixed (11.3) until the code bas is good enough to form the basis
    for SLEx 12

Has anyone figured out yet anyway to upgrade 4.1.3 to 4.3 WITHOUT major dependency issues. I managed to install 4.3, but I am trying to create a screencast of the upgrade process for complete newbies, so resolving dependencies should not be part of that. Any pointers?

Also I remember most of the problems were simply "package x is going to change vendor" type issues, anyway to disable those notifications and just assume "Ok" for every vendor change? That would help a bit at least.

Yes, and many complaints from Yast, as I said earlier.
