Default NVIDIA 630i chipset Suse 10.2 Network Card not detected

I have HP Pavilion Slimline s3821uk, which has nVidia nforce 630i chipset.

No network card detected while and after installation. Does anyone know which driver i can use for this network card or how to make it working.

Could not find driver on Nvidia website for linux.

    Thanks.

i have to use suse 10.2 purpose is complicated. Would be really great if any help could be provided.

is there any possibility of adding any modules to the kernel to fix this problem.

The driver is the latest one:

    http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/linux....18.31_uk.html

If you look in the supported page you will see your graphic card, it is a
    G100 chip.

Are you sure you are using SuSE 10.2?

    Or is this SLED?

If you are then it probably does not have the kernel module for your network
card and I doubt very much that it will ever support you graphics.

As that machine arch is relatively new I would suggest you install a newer
version of SuSE or other distro, getting such an old version running would
be a good challenge and not impossible but even I would only try as a
fleeting whim and then delete it.

    Hi
Maybe running 10.2 in a virtual machine, vmware server/virtualbox with
a later release on openSUSE is an option?

You going to have to look at compiling a module for the card and it may
not work with your kernel anyway....

You should listen to Malcolm, he is a moderator you know.

Sorry Malcolm had to get that one in, welcome to the fold ( even if I am a

Lucky for you I was upgrading my kernel and rebuilding the CUDA and
    vmware modules...

well, thanks for the link to the graphics driver, which is have already got, the only problem is the network card not graphics.

while i was looking around i found nvlan rpm on nvidia website named as "Linux nForce Drivers" i have got latest version 1.25 which does not support the nforce 630i chipset.

but i have installed the rpm and i got that network card in a list when configuring network cards in YAST.

but /sbin/ifconfig only return the details for loopback adapter. In YAST it shows as HP network card instead.

    ??? ????

sorry for delay but the solution was really obvious.

download the Linux nForce Drivers from

    Linux nForce Drivers

its version 1.25 is the last one. download it.

recompile instead of intalling from rpms and build it as .ko kernel module.

insert this module to the kernel modules and copy over the .ko file to modules directory.

inserting into the module should work but if not, recompile the kernel including this new module and it will work.

i tried installing rpms they did not work could be many reasons after installation i could only see the network card in yast2 but was not up and running.

though after recompiling kernel and reboot it worked as a charm.

BUT there was another problem related to my hardware that was: it has SATA DVD drive which ended all my dreams and original suse 10.2 kernel does not support SATA DVD drive.

tried upgrading kernel i.e. using kernel from 10.3 release but invain. unable to compile 10.3 kernel on 10.2

so left everything and put 11.1 on and NOW i have issues with CPU timing/frequency

see below link on that for more details:
Suse11.1 high cpu clock speed/freq - openSUSE Forums
