Kernel Warning Message Every second in console

I am running OpenSuse 11.1 on a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop (AMD Turion 64 x2).

I am getting an endless repetition of the same message every second to the console (/dev/console). Can someone explain how to stop it?

The hard drive light is also lights up every second to match exactly with the message output. I would like to stop this to avoid unnecessary hits to the drive.

It also makes it nearly impossible to login and do anything in single user mode because this message clobbers anything I am writing to type on the single user text screen.

Here is what the message says:

Aug 17 23-OO:17 linux-etnO kernel: atkbd.c: Unknown key released {translated set 2, code Ox8d on isaO060/serioO}.
Aug 17 23-OO:17 linux-etnO kernel: atkbd.c: Use ‘setkeycodes eOOd <keycode>’ to make it known.

Looks like a keyboard problem, i.e. wrong keyboard layout chosen on install. Now the kernel misses the keycode for a key.

thanks, any ideas on how to modify the keyboard type, short of re-installing?
