XFce Help I think

Is it possible to go to a pure XFce environment over Gnome I’ve always been a fan of XFce and would like to install it over my current Gnome OpenSUSE 11.1 installation if possible. Basically I want to get rid of everything Gnome and do a Pure XFce if this is possible please let me know.

Thanks,

RYAN.WDZIECZNY

Hi.

By it self xfce doesn’t use anything from gnome or kde.
But if you start qt or gtk applications, they will load appropriate modules.

Xfce doesn’t use anything from kde or gnome. Additionally I managed to disable gnome screensaver, because I don’t use it.

Do not try XFCE 4.6.0 or 4.6.1 - they are UNSTABLE.
Use 4.4.3 from official SuSe repository.

If I’m wrong, please correct me.

Are you running Pure XFCE is it just as simple as getting rid of the Gnome programs?

XFCE 4.4.3 is what I want to run I’m just trying to free myself of Gnome entirely XFCE is my favorite windows manager

sorry, I’m relatively new to openSUSE been using Xubuntu for a year and decided to upgrade.

XFCE doesn’t have much programs. It is just window manager.
Most programs come from kde or gnome. But environment is different.

And you can use “edit”, if you decide to add something to your post later.

Thanks.

Take a look to XFCE - Project page: Xfce - Projects
I used all of these programs (some applications are not included in the opensuse repositories - you need to compile them), they are separated from GNOME and KDE libraries so you can keep clean your XFCE from other DEs.
