Default Blank screen after nvidia driver installation

    Hello,

Since i've installed the nvidia drivers, my laptop is giving me a blank black screen. There is also no screen on the vga/hdmi output(as it should be for the time being).

I have a Samsung R710-AT01NL notebook with nvidia geforce 130M graphics. I've thrown away vista and put openSuse 11.1 on it. According to the logs the driver is correctly running, and so is the x-server.

    I've installed with:
    sh ./NVIDIA*.run -q
(and every time Y with a question, compiling etc)
    and then:
    sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia

    the logs:
    Index of /logs

Does anybody know what i'm doing wrong here?

    My manual on it

Alright so here is how to install the nvidia driver manually, in case the one in the repo doesn't work or u just want to use the latest.
    Go to Yast>Software>Software Management
Search for and install if you don't have these:
    make
    gcc
    kernel-source
Now download the latest Nvidia driver:
Place the file in your /home/username
Now restart and at the boot screen, pause the boot by moving the down button, then move back up and clear any text in the boot arguments by holding backspace. Then just type the number: 3
    At the login
Type "root" then enter and then your root password and press enter.
    now type
    cd /home/username
*Now remember you can use the {TAB} key to auto complete
    so type:
    sh NVIDIA{TAB}
and the whole file name should auto complete
    eg: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.13.01-pkg1.run
Follow the installer and let it compile the kernel module for you.
    Say Yes to everything
    Use TAB to move around

It's about the same i did before, however then i did not work in runlevel 3 but just stopped xdm for a while.

    the same result.. black screen
the Xserver doesn't seem to crash, if so i would see a textbased login like TTY{N} right?

i use putty to control the notebook remotely, so i can monitor the log files and settings 'live'

edit: forgot to mention, i'm using the newest drivers (185.18.29) for amd64

Is it an idea to revert back to vesa and let YAST install the drivers by adding the Nvidia repo? This way it should pick the correct drivers, install them and should just work. At least, that's what it always has done for me.

Revert back to vesa by going
    Code:
    sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
But you probably already know that.

Add the nvidia repo. It's under the community repo's.
Then go to install software and it should auto tick your driver. Check by viewing the repo. You should have the driver and the kmp module ticked.
Install, restart x and that should be it.

In my experience if you are using the packages from Nvidia or ATI DO NOT use
    sax2 to configure them.

At the end of the install the script asks if you want to configure using the
Nvidia-settings, let it do that and then when in KDE/Gnome you use the
Nvidia application to continue setting it up this will write a config file
into your /home for you to set your individual preferences.

You need to boot to init 3 and for good measure uninstall the drivers using
    the uninstall script, run sax2 -r -m 0=vesa to give you a standard xorg.conf
then run the installer again, let it configure for you DO NOT run sax2, got
to init 5 and you should be good to go from there, in KDE there will be a
menu entry for the Nvidia settings app.

    Hi,

Sorry for my slow response, the studentparties are started in Holland
I tried to install the X11-video-nvidia and the -G01 and G02 versions(seperatly), but then the GdmDisplay crashes. The same happens when i run the nvidia script and then NOT use the sax2 configuration line.

I've got the new logs here:
    Index of /logs/nieuw

perhaps my video-card is after all not supported? (GeForce 130M)

I just checked at nvidia and even the beta versions don't offer anything for you. So it looks no go/.

caf4926 is correct. A driver search at Nvidia comes up with nothing for your particular card.

Looks like you'll have to wait.

A friend of mine had the same problem with his 275 GTX but then they produced a driver a few weeks back.
