    Default Reverse windows rotation/selection with Alt+ ****f + Tab

    Hi,

This may be a trivial matter but I really am not getting how to enable, if possible, the functionality of the alt+shift + tab key to rotate windows in reverse order.

This is in KDE 4.1 on OpenSuSE 11.1 x86_64 with all the lattest upgrades.

I have enabled desktop effects. They all work.

    Under desktop effects I used:
    box swithc
    cover switch
    and my favourite:
    flip switch

None of those presents options to reverse rotate order with alt+shift + tab.
They only work on the same rotation order with alt + tab..

Anyone knows how to solve this issue ???
Enable the reverse rotation with alt+shift + tab ?

    Regards,
    Pedro

I don't believe that's an option with Kwin.

It is with Compiz-fusion as the option to set the keybind for previous window. If it's really that big of a deal then perhaps you should try using compiz-fusion in which case you can follow instructions from here:

Compiz Fusion on 4.3 X - openSUSE Forums

I wrote it for kde 4.3 but the same principle applies for any KDE version other than 4.2.

It works under KDE 4.2 and also 4.3. Not much help I know, and not directly addressing your problem/question, but I would highly recommend upgrading to a later KDE4 as the experience is so much better.

There are some great threads on how to do it on the forum.

Pardon my ignorance, but I've just checked my desktop effects settings using KDE 4.3 and I see no option to use any of the window switching applications with a reverse window rotation, not as an option or a keybinding. As far as I know it's not present in 4.3 unless you use compiz-fusion as the window manager. If it is possible in 4.2 it hasn't made it to 4.3. yet.

Actually when working in KDE 4.1 one goes to > configure desktop > computer administration > keyboard and mouse > keyboard shortcuts

selecting kwin under de drop down options there is a parameter to change and that refers to alt-tab and alt+shift + tab
they are both correctly selected to rotate windows (direct and reverse order)
But apparently that does not affect the behavior of the desktop effects.

Hummm ... great ... I may try that one if I get annoyed about the window rotation

Hmm, it just works for me! I always use kwin, not compiz.

I just select Flip Switch under Desktop Settings -> Desktop -> Desktop Effects.

When I use Alt-tab, it lines up all the open apps and scrolls through them forward, then when I hold down the shift key as well, they scroll backwards.

I recently updated to KDE 4.3 and deleted my .kde4 folder too, so I didn't have any old custom keybindings leftover.

Maybe we are talking about a different thing, I often get the wrong end of the stick .

I also found that you can change the keys for this under Desktop Settings -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Global Keyboard Shortcuts, then select Kwin from the drop box at the top. Then you can change Walk through Windows and Walk through Windows (reverse).

Haha hence my "pardon my ignorance."

Thank you for the information! I never knew that was there. Guess I was looking at the wrong (yet obvious) place.

    Hi,

Ok, lets see if I can explain a bit better the problem:

I have installed KDE 4.1 latest. OpenSuSE 11.1 x86_64 latest patches, latest kernel.
In this respect the software is just standard OpenSuSE with the updates.

    I have set exactly:

    > configure desktop > keyboard and mouse > keyboard shortcuts

and made the proper select of keys on:
Walk through Windows and Walk through Windows (reverse)
Actually they where default ... I never change them.

It still does not work. I can only make windows push in one order.
Not reverse. (alt + shift + tab does work like alt + tab)

The same happens in KDE 3.5 latest ... no reverse windows flip ... all key bindings are exactly the same.

I already rechecked every possible shortcut (maybe I was using the same key bindings for another purpose... but really I can not find anything ) ... nothing ...

    This stuff should work ...

    Strange huh ?

    Regards,
    Pedro

    Hi Pedro.

Maybe try changing your keyboard type in Yast.

Use the test feature to make sure all your keys are working properly, you can easily try several types until you find the correct layout.

Plus you could try re-assigning the flip keys, see if that works.

Key assignments were a real pain in early versions of KDE4, I had a lot of problems with my laptop extra keys. These problems were (mostly, for me) solved in KDE 4.2 and now also in KDE 4.3.
