OMG why would you want to use Limewire on Linux. Have you not read how many people have been caught by the RIAA/MPAA for sharing stuff through it? You wanna go the same way? Seriously, get used to torrents and although they don't provide any major security benefits over classic p2p, they are a bit harder to track with decent IP blocking filters and DHT disabled

If you still insist on using the classical p2p virus and cr@p infested network, then get Frostwire which is a Limewire clone - PackMan :: Package details for FrostWire

Also, in Linux you don't just download stuff from some random site and install it. You use central repositories filled with packaged software http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_Ya...e_Repositories

I don't use LimeWire either, but if you feel the need, here's how to use that .zip file.

    Thank you for the replies,

For my area RIAA/MPAA are not present, for frostwire, its limited in search, dont know the reasons, although i have installed it previously but found that limewire still wider,

well the issue here i am posting its not about limewire only, its about installing a package of .zip file on opensuse, to run the program from such a packahge is straight forward just unpack it and double click the *.sh file (run file).

Still i don't know how to install such files to opensuse menu.

With a *.bin file rightclick it and u can choose to install with yast.

but with Zip this option is not available.

    can you help in this?

Yes, it's a java based app, so probably you will not need to "install"
    anything but just "run" it.

Zip files are compressed files. You cannot install them, just unpacking
    them, as in windows.

There is a README file on Limewire you should read to follow the
    instructions.

OTOH, take a look into this thread:

    Installing LimeWire on OpenSuSE (Gnome)

    Camal

thank you, but still my q not replied here, sure i know the other ways and how to install frostwire and how to run limewire.

I want to know how to install any program which is a javabased to opensuse GNOME start menu. so i don't need to go to the package or i don't need to worry where to unpack the package, i don't want to keep it on my desktop of home folder, i want to know which folder is for programs like in windows, (program files) and then make a shortcut and put it on start menu, and if any files are associated with this program i can double click the file , then the program will start.

with this zip package am not able to do it on opensuse 11.1

    Regards

    Oh, that's a *different* question :-)

But you have to keep in mind that some java based programs do not go under
any *special* place (neither they go on windows), as they do not need to be
installed. Soyou can put the folder containing the limewire program at your
    desired location.

You only need to know where the package is stored and then just create a
shorcut to the ".sh" file which launches the limewire program.

    > with this zip package am not able to do it on opensuse 11.1

You do not need the .zip package, unpack it whatever place you estimate
convenient and just run the launcher.

You only need to know where the package is stored and then just create a
shorcut to the ".sh" file which launches the limewire program.

But this shortcut can i place it to the applications menu, and it will appear as a new app??

    Sure! :-)

I can tell you the procedure for kde 3.5 (it's the one I'm on) O:-) but you
can get it also with kde4 and gnome.

What desktop environment are you using?
