Grub Bootloader edit??

O.K. so I finally gave in and I am replacing my (really) aging Shuttle SK41G XPC (Athlon 2600+, Radeon 9600, 1Gb DDR RAM, 135Gb IDE HDD) with a shinny new Shuttle SA76G2 XPC (Athlon II X2 245 Regor, AMD 760G integrated graphics, 4Gb DDR2 RAM, 250Gb SATA HDD).
My question is:
I have cloned the drive from the SK41G (using Clonezilla) and then expanded the partition to 250Gb using GParted and everything appears to have gone well. If I install this drive in the SA76G2 do I:

* need to edit Grub (IDE vs SATA drives) and how? My Grub

* Will all the necessary drivers be there for me? Specs

I would not even try this, instead go for a clean openSUSE install. First, you're moving from a 32bit to a 64bit system. Second, for example your /etx/X11/xorg.conf is based on old videocard, so optimal is not what it will be.

What you should have done / should do:
Do a fresh install from appropriate media (i.e. x86_64). During install
create a partition for /home instead of using the entire 250GB for everything. Copy your old /home/* to that partition; this way you will have all user-settings and configs moved to your new system.

Any new install / upgrade would leave /home as it is.

I am not so sure I want to go with the 64 bit OS just yet.
Can't I just edit the video settings in /etx/X11/xorg.conf?
I haven't yet installed the drive as I am waiting for the XPC and CPU to arrive from Newegg today. Whats the downside with the way I was looking to do it?

I share Knurpht's opinion. I would have just grabbed my home partition's data and do a fresh install. I probably wouldn't even copy it all. Just my documents, emails, files, etc. Than I'd do a fresh install and copy all my files back. New pc, new OS. It's the easiest way to get a fully stable system IMHO. And it's probably simpler this way as well since the installer will do all the editing for you.

don`t see why not if you have the DVD for 64bit, but is you choice so I will
not butt in* :-)

The new card is capable of using the newer ATI drivers so for optimum usage
you will need to install them instead of the legacy ones that will be
installed for the 9000

As Knurpht stated you really need /home on a separate partition, this is
where all your personal files, e-mails, d/loads, preferences etc.. etc...
are stored, when you come to upgrade to a newer version you can just tell
the installer to format / leave /home alone and there you are back with all
files and settings exactly as you left them.

*All my machine here except the lappy run 64bit and I have had no problems
because of the arch, the only extra thing I have had to mess with was the
64bit flash for FF but that is a simple d/load and copy to fix.

Well, thanks for your suggestions. I got the XPC yesterday and went ahead with the 64 bit clean install. Everything went surprisingly smoothly and all seems to be working great. What a difference being able to run Vista in a virtual machine (doing updates no less) while burning DVD's, running Monsoon, Amarok AND Firefox all at once.
