Thread: sax2 not reading xorg.conf?

  1. #1

    Default sax2 not reading xorg.conf?

i've used both sax2 and xvidtune to position the display on the monitor where i need it. it has to be shifted to the left to work with the kvm switch. the output from xvidtune matches that in xorg.conf as set by sax2. but upon restart, it seems those settings are not being read in. am i leaving out a step somewhere?

    (11.1, kde3.5, nvidia fx540)

no. i had a bunch of trouble with nvidia fx570 drivers under 10.3 and didn't really want to go there. is it a must do? are they still doing 1-click updates for nvidia drivers? guess i should go look...

    Read this
Some NVIDIA Basics - openSUSE Forums

BUT, for you you will need to select the 173...version of nvidia NOT as shown in the images 185..

The one click has been throwing in all kind of stuff for some users. Just add the repo manually, go to software management and the new repo and check the x11-video-nvidiaG01
It SHOULD add all the rest, that is either the default or PAE kernel module depending on which you use

If you have a problem abort and report back

You can of course also download the driver manually from nvidia. I can give instructions if required

i ended up doing a full reinstall to change to ext3. when i installed only G01 (173) X would not start fussing about missing kernel module. went back and allowed yast2 to install the G02/185 as well. it runs, but xvidtune won't allow any changes, says they are not supported. sax2-r will not make any changes to the screen.

i can't spot anything wrong. the only errors being logged now are some missing fonts.

I have never used this: xvidtune

So I'm not sure what your problem is exactly. Ignore this:xvidtune for the time being. So how is the display?

    Does: glxgears
    run OK?

I always configure in Yast - Hardware - Graphics
Check the 3D box and set your monitor up - Is this: SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER what you have?

xvidtune is the xorg command line tool for adjusting video modes. it modifies xorg.conf in much the same way as sax2. it works on my 10.3 boxes, and it worked on this box until i installed the nvidia stuff.

glxgears does run. the issue is i can't change the screen position in the monitor. it is shifted too far right. the problem seems to be outside the tools as xvidtune and sax2 are behaving in basicly the same way - they can't make any adjustments.

the monitor is correct and 3d is checked.

Can you use the nvidia native tools to adjust your screen?
