i find it insulting that you apparently think that folks who *choose*
to read and then try to help via nntp are not smart enough to be
capable of _also_ benefiting from searching on the term "solved"
whether that term be in the message text, the message subject line, or
    in a tag..

for your information, sir, i am very capable of using the forum via
hhtp, the forum's advanced web based search functions and even know
how to use google to mine the forums--and i do all three several times
    almost every day..

*if* marking threads 'solved' would CAUSE more folks to search for and
find answers, then i would be as benefited by it as would you or any
trying to help...as would the searcher--but, experience leads me to
believe it just won't work that way...and i conclude it is therefore
more trouble than worth to either saddle moderators with that extra
effort OR modify the forums underlying code to make a "Solved" button
    available..

that you and i have different opinions on the utility of marking
threads solved gives you no right to question my motives or presuppose
how the outcome of the decision might affect me..

I actually was replying to consused but I guess you missed that.

I gave my opinion here openSUSE Forums - View Single Post - Mark topic as solved?

    and here
To be fair it is highly unlikely ever to be implemented unless the work load was excessive for the moderation team. Why? no one likes mods to official software..
Sorry I just found it ironic I guess when you're part of the irony its not so funny. As for nntp benefiting know you wouldn't, you wouldn't see the edit, and I highly doubt you can see the tags.

Any way I'll leave to you play in the sandbox. I've seen enough of the mailing list behaviour to last me a month... Go read the KDE vs Gnome on Project and the crdtools on factory I really can't be bothered getting involved in a similar vein.
Man first, have a try at Info, have a look at Wiki, if all that fails Scroogle!!!!!
If I've helped click on the Rep button I don't know what it does but it sounds cool.
