Default How to make a virtual windows XP

I'v tried to make a virtual machine for winxp for security reasons, but I can't make any sense of it. How would I set it up? Would it be any different for windows7.

What virtualisation technology are you using? VMWare? VirtualBox? Xen? Parallels? Something else?

I use VirtualBox on openSUSE 11.1 to make virtual machines for both XP
and 7. They work fine, particularly on the system that implements AMD-V.

You install VirtualBox and create a VM and the virtual disk, then
mount the installation CD and install.

Ditto. I've done VMware server the same way and know people who do the
same with Workstation. VirtualBox is growing to be my favorite for
everything by production environments (where I prefer Xen). KVM/Qemu is
    also neat.

    Good luck.
