Thread: lizard control

  1. #1

    Default lizard control

I've been using OpenSuse for several weeks - it's a great distribution. There's just one thing: I can't look at the lizard head anymore.

I managed to remove the chameleon from the kmenu button by changing themes, but the icon remains in application titlebars. Can someone tell me how to remove the titlebar lizard?

So you've got a lizard's half head on your title bars... that sounds a bit
    scary, doesn't it? X-)

Now seriously, my wild guess is that you are on a kde desktop using some
SuSE2 window decoration (note that "window decoration" is different
than "theme"). Just try to change it to another one and check it the
lizard's half head goes away and lets you sleep :-)

    Greetings,

I think you need one of those 'Gecko Blasters'

    Try changing the kdm-branding-openSUSE
    to kdm-branding-upstream

Have not tried this myself. I like my Gecko.

I suppose this is in KDE, since I see no Lizard head in Gnome, by
default. Open KDE's Control Center, by default in Kmenu Favorites >
Configure Desktop (to launch from console this is kcontrol). Then
Appearance & Themes > Window Decorations. You should read SUSE2. You may:
-choose another style of window decoration if you don't like that style
    at all;
-or retain this style but just remove the head: click the tab "Logo" and
uncheck "Show titlebar logo". There you go.

Thanks for all the responses. I should mention that I'm using openSUSE 11.1/KDE4. It appears that the default KDM theme is ozone, and there's no obvious way to change it. The new "Personal Settings/Configure Desktop" launches a Mac-like interface for various

p_barill appears to be describing the KDE 3.5 interface. The KDE4 windows decoration (at least for ozone) is limited to a couple options, and neither remove the gecko from titlebar.

I imagine the best solution lies in caf4926's suggestion to switch from kdm-branding-openSUSE to kdm-branding-upstream. I installed kdm-branding-upstream (via yast/software mgmt), which during installation indicated kdm-branding-openSUSE was being removed. Still, no change after restart.

Sorry to make a big deal over something small, but now I'm just curious as to how and where these display configurations live and are managed.

    Can someone offer advice here?

    Thanks,
    Stuckee

I've been using the Crystal windeco for some time now, both for kde3.5 and 4, and both work nicely and without geckos. Pity the 4.x version lost the transparency.
