    Default Microphone problem

    Hi,

    I am trying to configure my microphone with OpenSuse 11.1 My audio playback does work though.

    I checked the KMixer settings to confirm the
    microphone was not muted, or set to low. I have put them
    to maximum.

    These are the o/ps from the commands that I ran. I have been trying to figure it out by reading through the forums and using "google"..but really couldn't solve this.

    I am sorry guys for asking yet another question. Stupid me.

    I know you stated you checked your mixer, but the script output suggests you did not, or you ran the script at the wrong time.

    It is important you run the script when you believe you have things set up perfectly for your mic to work.

    When I look at that script output, and I check all the areas I highlighted in red, I can not see how your mic could possibly work.

    Please recheck your mixer settings.

    When testing your mic, I recommend you use arecord, ... ie something like:
    arecord -d 10 myrecording.wav
    where "10" indicates the length of the recording.

    After the recording is done, play back myrecording.wav with one of your media players to see if you recorded anything.

    Hey,

    Me again.

    The Vostro is kinda blessed to have a working mic by default. You just have to turn it on.

    Go to Kmix. Go to settings>configure channels.

    Select capture and input source. Make sure the tick for input source is selected. Make sure the volume is up to max

    Reboot.

    When you log back in, it should be working.

    There are other things (such as updates) we can try, but IMHO there is no point. Your PC's mixer still appears wrong !

    I know you say you have the mic switched ON in your mixer, but that script output says otherwise. It specifically records your PC has the MIC muted (see the RED).

    It also records your PC has digital audio switched OFF (see the oranage) and a digital mic ? setting switched to analog (as opposed to digital) (also see the orange). I do not know anything about that model laptop (ie whether the mic is analog or digital) but from what I can read from that output, the mic is set to ensure it does NOT work.

    Apologies if I have this wrong, but from my perspective, you really need to address those settings, else anything else we propose is a waste of your time.
