    Exclamation Computer keeps freezing

    hey,

i just downloaded and installed opensuse with GNOME. i tried installling the repository items and computer froze. rebooted my laptop and now i get the error message... Accessing the package management failed System management is locked by the application with pid 6081 (/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base).
Close this application before trying again.

Would you like to continue without having access
to the package management or retry to access it?

I want to get back into this to install things.

Can anyone help me do this and make make my computer run better again?

Try opening a console and issue:

    killall -9 y2base

Or run top to see if there is an app running with that pid nd kill it.

If you cannot see it then have a look in /var/ and see if there are any
stale yast entries ( extension pid ) and see if you can remove them as root.

and, next time your computer "freezes" take a walk....sit on your
hands, take a nap, make a cup of tea.....ANY thing other than
    "rebooted my laptop"!!

ok, i know that reboot (and if it is really bad: reinstall) are the
routine fix of many many problems in you most likely former operating
    system...

that is NOT the case here--so, try to get out of that habit!!

first, remember that openSUSE is mostly FREE...and, when you charge
that amount of money for the product you have to find ways to do
things less expensively than (say) Micro$oft or Appe....

one way to do that is find folks who will store and distribute your
    software FREE of charge....

and, most of the places which serve up openSUSE repos are universities
around the world <http://mirrors.opensuse.org/list/all.html> and they
are not always the FASTEST things on earth..

BE PATIENT....what may _look like_ a freeze is just a momentary
delay...chill, go for a walk, pop open a browser and pull up the front
page of the New York Times and do so some light reading...actually,
before you do any of that, read this which will help you in your
transition to becoming a Linux Power User: http://tinyurl.com/8b9s6
