    you mean nvidia-settings? i've tried it, but i can't find where it will allow timing changes to the mode line. but it does update xorg.conf. can it do this and i'm not seeing it?

    It is often included in aticonfig. I don't have nvidia cards. The
    alternative is hand tuning the mode lines if you can find them.
