Thread: openSUSE LiveCD with XFCE

  1. #1

    Default openSUSE LiveCD with XFCE

Does anybody know of a way I could create an openSUSE LiveCD that includes the XFCE window manager? I know you can get it with the DVD version but I'm installing on computers with no DVD drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
You could try applying to susestudio and rolling your own.

You could take a look here: Xfce Live CD - openSUSE

I have not tried that myself.

The iso it references is for openSUSE-11.0 and not 11.1: XFCE Live - Wuala, social online storage

If you have a high speed internet connection, you could also try to adopt the approach adopted here: Xfce 4.6.0 released (and ready for testing!) | stick.gk2.sk

Again, I have not tried this myself.

While googling for an answer, I also stumbled across this link:
Search results for : openSUSE XFCE Live CD - Free downloads : Fenopy

I have no idea as to how good or bad those openSUSE xfce liveCDs might be. You could try it out, and then post here and let us know.

Gonna try this right now, it looks promising. I will report back with how it works.

Could you boot from the netinstall CD (which also does other methods than just net) and then install from a USB stick?

I'm curious - did you ever succeed with these live CDs? If so, how did it work out?

Not sure if the opensuse 11.1 cd has option for minimal installation. If there is, you can do so and then add the xfce repo and install it via yast. Takes 3 minutes or less to install on a high speed connection.
