Top 3 application that you wish existed as Linux versions

Let see if we all share the same opinion on this one. Lets pretend that Wine doesn’t exist. What applications and programs would you miss the most from Windows?

For me it is

  1. Spotify
  2. Steam
  3. Nokia PC suite

But I don’t miss IE. That’s for sure

Let me see… um, No I’m getting a blank!

  1. InfoSelect
  2. OmniPage Pro
  3. ?

Read the first message. Pretend that Wine doesn’t exist. Wasn’t expecting a moderator to break the forum rules

Wine - I’m Tee Total;)

Don’t use it mate.

Free Download Manager.
Google Chrome.
I really want these two things in Linux versions…

Um, I didn’t see any mod break the forum rules. Caf was saying that he
couldn’t think of any application that runs on Windows that he wants/
needs ported to Linux.

I’d go for the blackberry suite myself (barry doesn’t work for me) and
Moray. I’d also like to see some real support from Webex (they say it
runs in Linux, but when I tried it last time, it said it couldn’t
identify the platform or version and refused to start - the fact that
they only give you 5 minutes before a scheduled appointment to get
everything working isn’t a huge help, either).

Jim

1- iphone modem handler

2- iphone music synchronser

3- every phone synchronisation tool (contacts, calendars, etc…)

Ditto. I haven’t used Windows in so long, I don’t miss anything. I do not own any Windows software, so I don’t use wine anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply! rotfl!

pret auto](http://pret-auto.org)

Itunes
either Adobe CS3/4 or Corel Draw x4
Guild Wars

None, I wouldn’t even miss all the games.

But it would be good if libass had better support for special effects (like VSFilter) and Krita had the same or greater amount of features than The GIMP (just because I think that Qt 4 is better than GTK).

  • Corel Draw (Gimp is as good as Corel for photo editing but not for image creation and Blender is not nearly as handy as Corel Draw)

  • My Garmin navigator driver!

So i leave a Windows in 2 of my computers and boot lets say a couple of times a year when i need either of the above apps

or I am sure you can get it right now

wget http://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-unstable_current_i386.deb
or
wget http://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-unstable_current_amd64.deb

alien google-chrome-unstable_current*.deb google-chrome-unstable_current.rpm

sudo alien -r google-chrome-unstable_current*deb

mkdir ~/RPMS
mv google-chrome-unstable_current*rpm ~/RPMS
sudo zypper ar /home/user/RPMS localrepo
sudo zypper in google-chrome-unstable

WBR

  1. Agnitium Outpost Firewall
  2. S&H Computer Systems-Newsrover
  3. Dragon Naturally Speaking
  1. Onetouch Diabetes Management software (would need a kernel module for the glucose monitor too)
  2. AudibleManager
  3. PowerShell (I know this is impossible since PowerShell is for Windows only, but it would be nice to have some sort of terminal shell in Linux that could also interface with Windows systems and provide all of the same features as PowerShell).
  1. Visual Studio
  2. Paint.NET (I know it is partially usable via Mono)
  3. SQL Server Management Studio (haven’t tried SQL Sharp GTK yet)
  4. Microsoft Office (full version… Access, Publisher, etc.) and Visio
  5. Google Sketchup
  6. Flash (development)
  7. and more …

Heretic! MS Office? MS Visual Studio? WTF?! You, sir, will burn in the fire of hell for your heresy.

I really hope you’re kidding when you say this. If someone needs to use commercial Windows programs, it certainly doesn’t warrant a derisive response like that.

You start a Poll and then shoot the person for their honesty. It stops now or I’ll shut it down.
Some interesting answers so far though.
