    Default Edit .doc with openSUSE OpenOffice

    Hi, I got a problem. I got a document from my friend that i must edit. He use microsoft office 2003. When i open the document using OpenOffice, i cannot edit the file ( the title bar says "Read Only" ). How to make OpenOffice can edit .doc document?
    OpenSUSE 11.1 with GNOME 2.4 desktop
    Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz
    RAM 512 MB
    nVidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro 32 MB

    Ask your friend to remove the document's security & re-send it,or get the password to open it read/write

    I already phone him but he says that he doesn't use password to his document. Oh yeah, the document is saved in CD.

    copy the document to your hard drive and try again..

    if that fails, then use konqueror or dolphin to navigate to the
    document on your drive and right click, then adjust its permissions to
    allow you to both read and write...(that is, the act of burning the
    ..doc file onto a CD _may_ have caused it to marked as read only by the
    M$ CD burning software..)

    an alternative way to do this, and so much more "THIS century", is to
    cloud compute it...have a look at http://docs.google.com/ where your
    friend could upload his .doc file and grant you access to edit..

    that way, no plastic is used..
