I have a Verizon Air Card for Internet connection (rural area) , anyways I used the card in my other laptop , and then reinserted it into the one I am on right now , KNetwork Manager showed it twice , I then disconnected the device again and reinserted and another device instance showed again so now I have three instances of the same device (/dev/ttyACM0) showing in KNetwork Manager . Have in the past disconnected and reinserted device and never had this happen .
SuSE 11.1 , KDE 4.2.88 (KDE 4.2.88 (KDE 4.3 >= 20090527)) “release 135”

No comments about knetworkmanager. I still not recommend using it.

Is there an alternative you would recommend?

I’m using the traditional ifup/ifdown.
