Problem with SatLab License

Hello there,

I’ve been experiencing problems with the license of a software called SatLab. I am currently running open Suse 11.1 (cd version) on VMWare workstation (Trial) on a Win XP Pro 32bit. Installation of all components is ok. But when i run the required commands ./usr/local/bin/sllminst ./LICENCE (from the installation manual of SatLab) to install the trial license I get this message:

linux-tvc9:/usr/local/bin # /usr/local/bin/sllminst ./LICENCE

To be honest I am new to linux. I have just installed opensuse virtually and that’s it. Please give any suggestions or advises.

Thanks in advance!

welcome…

reading the output you included, i don’t think either openSUSE in
particular or Linux in general is your problem…

that is, it seems that openSUSE Linux is working as it should (because
apparently you DID communicate with the license monitoring server, AND
got a message back saying “no way dude, you can’t use SATLAB because
blah blah blah”

here is what i would do, i would read the “because blah blah blah”
part very carefully, and then go from there…

in the blahblah:

  • The server (lmgrd) has not been started yet or

  • the wrong port@host or license file is being used or

  • the port or hostname in the license file has been changed.

  • FLEXlm error: -15,570.

  • System Error: 111 “Connection refused”

** For further information, refer to the FLEXlm End User Manual,
** available at “www.macrovision.com”.

actually, i couldn’t find that user manual at the macrovision site
(but you might, if you look)…

using google i find it several places on the web that has the manual,
see: http://tinyurl.com/mng4nq

i’d guess one of those places has your answer…and, maybe an faq
and/or forum you can use to ask if you get stuck…

also, using google i found that several folks have had the same error,
see http://tinyurl.com/llsfaj (i really doubt if all of them were
using openSUSE)

or you could wait here until someone with actual SatLab license
problems comes along…but, that could be a while…a very long while…

Thanks for the reply natural_pilot,

Well basically what worries me is the “Shutdown failed…Cannot connect to license server…” and after I do the satlab command to execute satlab it says “…FLEXlm error: -15,570…” and looking at the manual error -15 is : “The server (lmgrd) has not been started yet, or the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the TCP/IP port or host name in the license file has
been changed.”

Maybe there is no license server to connect to so that is why it halts and cannot shut it down. (I do not know if this is right or wrong I’m just conjecturing…); and if there is what is the command to start it? Where can I download and install this server? Because I have just istalled open suse and nothing else. Maybe extra software is needed libraries etc.

Thank you for your time.

> Because I have just istalled open suse and nothing else.

really? i thought you also installed SaTLab…an application which
requires an on-the-net licensing verify to allow it to run, right?

and, apparently it uses something called FLEXlm to coordinate the
license, right?

and the output from FLEXlm TELLS you what is wrong and how to fix
it (look at the FLEXm manual), right?

have you looked at it yet?

see, i don’t even know what SatLab is, and certainly do not have
YOUR problem, but i WILL tell you that there is a section in that
manual titled “Troubleshooting Guide” with a sub-section named
“Connection Problems” which begins with this line: “The application
program (or lmstat) can’t connect to the server to check out a license.”

so, if you wish, it is you option to keep believing the problem is
with openSUSE and sit here and wait until a SatLab user/guru comes
along and reads the manual for you and tells you how to fix it…

i won’t be doing that…
