kde4.3 factory Users?!

Friends. I just took the bull by the horns and updated my 42’ kde to the factory 4.3 (4.2.88 (KDE 4.2.88 (KDE 4.3 >= 20090527)) “release 135”)

What I want to know is. Are any of you using QT45 with it. I am NOT. And for me everything is just great.
If you are - WHY?
Thanks

Carl

I’ll be following this thread with interest. Is there much difference performance and feature-wise between KDE 4.2 and KDE 4.3?

BTW, I think you should mention which repos you have enabled, so that our newer friends don’t try to follow with all their 1-click added repos, and wonder why their experience isn’t the same.

That’s in no way surprising to anyone, isn’t it?

OK. There are though one or two threads about kde4.3, one started by one of my colleagues @geoffro

And just to confirm the hopefully obvious:
Using OS 11.1 (see sig for details)

English mentality prevents me from grasping this comment Stephan. Please explain…

I guess it’s safer to use Qt 4.5.1 with KDE 4.3 since it’s built against it

Safer than what?
Not using it?

i’ve been running 4.3 for awhile now with the QT 4.5 repo and haven’t had any problems with it

Dito. A slight, weird problem: every once in a while windows ‘grow’ or ‘shrink’, minimize and restore stops that.

You may or may not encounter problems when using older Qt version but for example plasmoids are very sensitive to Qt version (stask doesn’t work in 4.3 Beta 1 as it should:’().

OK.
To update you all. I was having no issue without qt45. Nevertheless, I added it and updated (an odd conflict to work around, but no problem).

Now with qt45. Looks equally good. And I would judge there to be a slight improvement in speed with the GUI’s. All told there are nice improvements in this beta release. I’m supremely happy.

I just had to install krusader because fish:// would not work in Dolphin or K.

I had read about a problem with fish:// recently, so now I’m thinking the users in that thread may have been on 4.3 beta

krusader, which is actually from 4.3 beta repo works fine.

now that you mention that i’ve had that problem a few times but like you said minimize and restore stops it or you can also just grab the window and move it which will also stop it

Stask works fine for me, although it does need to be patched to work correctly. There are some posts on kde-look.org on how to do it.

Caf,
In running the QT it seems that it’s all in the plasmoids one uses, just as Bender said. In my own personal case the Timoid & Translatoid plasmoids would crash my system when in 4.4 but not 4.5. So there’s ya’ why most who try KDE4.3 Beta should have the 4.5 QT.

Thanks - Yes. I was getting that understanding.

Actually I don’t use plasmoids really. My desktop is lean and clean. Anyway with qt45 repo added, all is well. Thanks everyone so far for adding comments. It will be nice to see how things progress.
