Question Novell Openoffice.org crashing when opening ods files

Trying to open a couple of spreadsheets created on a Vanilla OpenOffice.org installation, but opening any one of the spreadsheets crashes the Novel OpenOffice.org. I have tried many other spreadsheets and the same problem occurs, yet any odt docs I have tried to open work just fine.

I have been trying to launch the files from the command line "soffice -o {filename}" to see if I get any errors but nothing (I haven't seen any output when launching any other applications from the command line which seems a bid odd to me, may not be odd to you though just a different behaviour).

Any suggestions on the possible causes or pointers on how to diagnose the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

Have a look at running strace ( man strace )

this should output all the calls and such to the commandline might give some
    info there for you.

    Default Solved now!

Hi baskitcaise, tried that but the output made absolutely no sense to me.

However, the problem was solved by installing Base (Base nor Math were installed on when this instance of openSUSE was installed). I can not begin to imagine why the absence of Base package was causing problems.
