Symbols xmgrace

Hi,

I have installed opensuse 11.1 in my pc and I also install the xmgrace package. However, in the xmgrace some the Symbol list in the font tool menu some symbols does not work! for example the symbols: Eur,infinity, sum, partial derivative, not equal, plus or minus, etc...
Anyone know how solve that problem?

Check your character sets, i suspect you want 8599-15 instead of
8599-1.

Hi npsilva, were you able to resolve your problem? I have the same problem as you. I get the same problem on two computers I have, one with SUSE 11.1, the other with 11.2.

I suspect the solution offered by Joseph may have helped you, but I'm not sure how to "check the character sets."

In xmgrace, I want to insert a special symbol (up-arrow/down-arrow). To do this, I use the canvas hot-key "Ctrl-alt T" and then from there do "Ctrl e" to get the fonts/symbols dialogue box.

In the symbols category, there are two sets of symbols, separated by a couple of empty rows. The first set of symbols all work fine, but the second set all do not. The buttons appear and are clickable, but do not produce the symbols in the dialogue box.

The same is true for all of the other fonts--so it sounds like Joseph is correct, and I need to get the other character set, but I'm not familiar with this at all.

Can someone tell me how to check the character sets, and how to install the 8599-15 set? I don't know if this is only for xmgrace, or if this is a system set. yast does not show anything upon searching for this number, and google doesn't give any real results (other than a link to this thread).

I've also searched google/the net for the general fonts issue, but have had no luck. If npsilva has had luck resolving the issue, please let me know. If others can offer assistance, thanks in advance.

HI,

I solve my problem when I install the xorg-x11-fonts ... to have acess to special symbols I type in the terminal

LANG="C"; export LANG
xmgrace name_of_the_file.agr

to see the special symbols use Ctrl+E in the Grace menus...

Under suse 11.2, the font to install in yast is 'xorg-x11-libfontenc-devel-32bit'

Please use the following command:

Put the cursor where you want to insert the text or if you want to use the symbols on axes use CTRL-e command a pop up will open.Slect Symbol. For upper half of the symbol list symply you will get the symbols just by using \f{symbol}----- to end the command use \f{}. For lower half of the symbol just write in pop up \x\c and any key word by key board. For example in order to write arrow up write...\x\c- and to close the command use \x\c-\C\f{} and for down arrow \x\c/\C\f{}.
