    Hi
It's generated during the kernel compile and contains the module
version information to use when compiling modules against that kernel.

If you need more info google on Module.symvers ;-)

*seriously*, did you _really_ look for yourself?

your first post said: "google and forum search havent been very
helpful" which, after reading your second post i took as challenge..

perhaps my google-foo is better than yours, because the SECOND hit on
    my FIRST search string:

    suse directory structure /usr/src "linux-obj"

    included this line:

"On SUSE, the linux source directory is not the intended directory to
use, but rather the linux-{kernel#}-obj directory.

say "thank you for looking it up for me"...and, i will say "velbekomme
    eller selvtak"..

thx for the replies but this is problematic , unfortunately my customer decided to go to a red hat based distro better compiler and not so many issues :/ I cant argument against it now that everything is working.

and to somebody else yes your google foo is better we found old mailing listings from 2002 unanswered. google sucks imho, ranking etc .

    anyways cheers

*edit* I was trying to get them to buy sled license but that is totally out the question now :/ *
