    Default xserver problem

    Hi all,
I have a openSuse 10.3 64bit installed on my PC as my desktop system.
At 29/04/2009 an automatic update via YOU did completed successfully. According to zypper.log file, one of the upgrades was the Xorg server. Currently installed version is the xorg-x11-server-7.2-143.13.
I restarted the computer today. After the restart, I noticed that the screen resolution was wrong!
I checked from xrandr and it reported a 1280x1024@75Hz resolution. I had setup a 1152x864@100Hz resolution for my Eizo T57S CRT monitor. The VGA card is an ATI Radeon 9200, which is recognized as RV280 5960.
I checked the logs and noticed the upgrade of xorg. I restored the previous xorg.conf.* files from the backup and restarted the server. Now, I have the correct resolution, but the refresh rate is not the correct one.

    The xrandr output is:
    Code:
    Screen 0: minimum 400 x 300, current 1152 x 864, maximum 1152 x 864
    default connected 1152x864+0+0 0mm x 0mm
       1152x864 75.0* 100.0
       1152x768 55.0
       1024x768 75.0 70.0 60.0 87.0 85.0
       832x624 75.0
       800x600 75.0 72.0 60.0 56.0 85.0
       640x480 75.0 73.0 67.0 60.0 85.0
       720x400 88.0 70.0 85.0
       640x400 85.0
       640x350 85.0
       512x384 87.0
       416x312 75.0
       400x300 85.0 75.0 72.0 60.0
Obviously, the xrandr thinks that the correct refresh rate should be the 75Hz (which are not even configured!), instead of the 100Hz. The positive thing is that the 100Hz RR is configured, the resolution is the correct one and it correctly reports the 1152 as the maximum resolution, since this is the maximum into the xorg.conf file. However, I have not managed to convince my suse to work at 100Hz!

I double checked with the xmode the modlines entries, check from another computer the xorg.conf file and found nothing. Why are my modlines entries ignored? Did I miss something? Should I search of alternative locations on which xserver looks for a conf file? Is it a bug?

    The xorg.conf file is:

    No one?
It's really very frustrating and wearisome to work with this very low refresh rate.

    Install the FGLRX drivers.

    ATI - openSUSE

On that note 10.3 is quite dated and the radeon driver in it hasn't been upgraded in ages and thus lags behind in development and possible bugfixes.

I use the open source driver.
And, the problem is that after the upgrade, sax2 shows only 3(!!!) resolutions: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024.

Previous version had much more resolutions...
I restored the xorg version from the DVD, after solving a dependency hell and re-installing half of the software.

I locked that version in order to avoid future breaks.
