Thread: Using the "find" utility to recover lost Knotes

Default Using the "find" utility to recover lost Knotes

A while back I lost my kde4 desktop while upgrading to the latest packages. It is working now, but while trying to copy the .kde4 directory to .kde4-bk, I managed to delete it.
A lot of kde4 settings are contained in this file. Most I can get on without but one thing I did miss. I had created quite a few "Knotes" on the desktop which were now lost.
Anyway I thought I would try a file recovery program to see if I could recover some of the deleted .kde4 Knotes. The testdisk program did a good job. It generated thousands of files for me to look at.
Does anyone know how I might use the "find" utility to search for "Knotes" files ?

Ugly solution.... if you know the contents of some of your notes and they
are in a text format you could do something hideous like the following and
it may even work unless you have too many files:

find ./path/to/directory | xargs grep 'note Contents Go Here'

    Good luck.
