Thread: speed of file deleting process in konqueror and dolphin

Default speed of file deleting process in konqueror and dolphin

    Hallo,

i am using 11.1 with kde 4.2.2 on 64 bit.
The problem is that when i am deleting files in konqueror or dolphin, the speed of this process is very slow. If there is a bug of files, it can take minutes (in contrast to millisecondes with a shell command).

    Does anyone has a solution????

    thank you

When using Konqueror/Dolphin are you deleting or just putting them in the dustbin?

I ask because delete means rm (like you do in your shell), but mv may take time when the dustbin is on a different filesytem.

    Just my 2 cents.

With me, send to trash is almost instantaneous. So the problem isn't in Konqueror/Dolphin 32 bit.

i use the del button (put to trash). the problem is that it is not always like that. at the moment, it works quiet fast.

Like deleting of files, there are additinol problems related to kde occuring not permanently. Recently, i posted a problem with automatic ban forcing me to relogin sometimes every 5 minutes, sometimes not for days. Following the advices to update to kde 4.2.2 has not solved the problem.

So, i dont have any idea about this fluctuation in deleting speed. I never noticed problems like that in windows independent of the location of the trash folder.

I'm using 32-bit and moving files to the waste-bin with Konqueror 4 has been
deadly slow at times. Also, the move hasn't happened on some occasions. This
has been associated with the bleeding of data from a hidden to the visible
tab - I hadn't noticed a slow response when no tabs were open.

There was a problem like this in the first release of M$ Vista - the time estimating period was longer then the deleting process. It was a quite funny. Maybe the guys at KDE are implemented some funny feature from Vista, like Microsoft did it in Window$ 7 with KDE.

Could be. I've noticed that I'm having to reboot a lot more often with KDE
4.2.2 to get program updates to be implemented instead of them working on
the fly. What next? A registry for KDE? ;-)

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart x-session should be enough in most cases.

Nobody knows. Actually, I would be happy with a 30 trial for every version. They are releasing updates very often.
