A VNC question......

I want to be able to physically sit down at a computer and login to a SUSE session and start the programs I'm going to be using for the day. Then leave and leave the session running. Then I want to be able to VNC into said session from work or whatever and use the use the programs, like I was sitting there locally. Then I want to be able to close VNC and leave the session running. I guess this is like what terminal services does for Windows server. I have VNC already set up and everything but I can't login to a running session. Everytime I start VNC it starts a new session. Is this doable? Any help would be appreciated.

How did you configure VNC? There is Remote Administration in Yast which
uses ports 5901-5909 and each is its own session only accessible remotely
and there is also the option (as I recall) to configure remote access for
the main console. Try looking in sax2 or whatever lets you configure your
Graphics Card and Monitor stuff.

The way its setup now it only works on ports 5901 and 5801, a new session everytime. What specifically am I looking for?

I found the settings you were talking about but it still won't login to an existing session, it starts a new one each time

You have to use x11vnc if you want use an existing X session. I use it and it works perfectly.

I personally don't like VNC (slow), but I do use FreeNX and like it
a lot. It handles manual and accidental disconnections and allows
you to pick up where you left off.. .uses ssh for encryptions...
VERY fast (works well even on low speed connections).

On a good speed connection, it feels like a local desktop.

I use the free NX client from nomachine on the client side
(it has a better i/f than the freenx one).

No need for a Xserver at all on the box.

Oh.. and I used to use VNC.. and yes, you CAN pick up where
you left off... but I haven't used it in awhile, once
you use NX you'll never want to go back to VNC.
