Thread: Wine not working

  1. #1

    Default Wine not working

I am not able to install any windows application using wine. Whenever I try I get error message:
"Access violation at address 0040993E. Write of address 00400000"

Although when using "winecfg" pops up wine settings window. When I try "wine name_of_windows_applicatio" from the konsole it gives me the same error.

    Can anybody help me please?

Sounds like it's a problem with your wine installation. Tested and pspad installed for me.

Try this go to your home folder and rename .wine to .wine-old (it's hidden so you will need to show hidden folders)
Then reinstall wine and run winecfg and try installing pspad again.

OT why are you trying to use pspad there are plenty of Linux apps that do the same for example jedit http://www.jedit.org/ you should find it in yast

I've seen a case (when I was visiting Dresden, and using our laptop PC) where wine was not co-operating with me, and even changing the name of the .wine to .wine-old did not work, although that is also what I recommend one try first. On that occasion, surprisingly enough, a reboot worked. ... I have not figured out why (as it should not be necessary).

I liked Pspad very much wen I worked o windows. I tried kwrite but it does not have the tab functionality. Well I will try jedit, downloading it right now.

BTW do you know anything opensource like webex or dimdim where I can share my desktop with multiple users.dimdim do not have any plugin for Liix as of now and the all other sites I researched required .exe's to be installed...

No renaming .wine to .wine_old did not work. In the past few days I have installed un-installed wine umpteen times. It just does not work. Even different versions.
