Default Knode: Can't copy postings to local folders.

I've just discovered I can no longer drag a posting onto a local folder to
copy it. Also, I can find no other way of copying a message.

    I'm running OpenSUSE 11.1 and KDE 4.2.2.

not sure if this is what your talking about but you can right click open
in new window then save as to where ever you want to then open it with
    kwrite

That sounds far too complicated for what used to be a simple drag-and-drop.
This all happens within knode - or should do.

If you are getting an error message something like "can't open index" then
you are probably fighting a quirk of Knode. The immediate solution is to
delete the folder(s) that you can't drag into and recreate them. If you
have existing previous messages you want to save, you need to copy the
entire contents from the existing (inaccessible) folder to another folder
in your home directory then import them into a newly created folder in
knode using the import function. The old messages will be in .kde or .kde4
    subfolder share/apps/knode.

The quick test to see if this is applicable is to create a new folder and
see if you can save messages to it.

Thanks, but it still isn't working with a new folder. There are no error
messages - I just get ignored.

Under KDE3, when I click and drag on the message, the pointing hand
changes to a circle with a line through it and a rectangle (message) to
lower right. The circle changes to an arrow as the pointer goes over a
folder that can be copied into.

In KDE4.2.2, I'm getting no change of the pointer symbol when starting the
click and drag- it stays as a pointing hand.

Just to try and clarify things a bit - I'm talking about dragging-and-
dropping a message from the message-list panel to the folder panel.

There are two possible avenues to pursue - is the folder accessible but
drag&drop failing or is the folder itself inaccessible? Do you have a
folder known to already contain messages and, if so, can you read the
stored messages? The problem needs to be narrowed a bit.

I can't help with kde4 - I ran out of patience with that exercise early on
    and retreated to kde3.

I understand your reasons for returning to KDE3 but having eventually
converted my KDE3 Kontact data to KDE4, I didn't want to go through the
whole rigmarole again so I'm sticking to KDE4 through thick and thicker.

My folders are all accessible - it's the "drag" of the drag-and-drop
that's failing or, more likely, just not there. Checking back on KDE3, I
can't find another way of copying to a folder from the message list -
there's nothing I can find in the drop-down menus. I suspect this has been
    dropped or forgotten about.

Looking in my folders, I see something else went missing early last year.
I had a setting for postings to a particular newsgroup to be copied into a
folder and that seems to have last worked with Knode 0.10.4.

Looks like I'll have to submit another bug report or two on Knode.

    Thanks for trying to help.
