First, what service are you trying to connect to? MSN? ICQ? Google talk? etc.

Do you get any error message when you try to connect?

I have had issue with MSN in kde4-kopete, but I can live without it.

    Hi,

Yes you have 4.1.3, from the other thread you downgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.1.3. Anyways, Pidgin is a nice alternative to kopete, unless you want to do video chat. But if all you want it for is for instant messaging then Pidgin is a really good IM client. You should already have the Packman repository so just search for it in Yast Software Management. The version there is out of date though and won't work with ICQ. If you want the most recent version you can get it from the GNOME repository or from here Software.openSUSE.org the second one down.

    Hope this helps!

I usually right click on the icon at the bottom of the Contacts screen for the service I want to connect to then select from the drop down menu how I want to logon, OnLine, Invisible, etc.

I'm using KDE 4.2.2 under openSuSE11.1. Video under Kopete is broken in my exerience under 4.2.2. It used to work under KDE 3.5.10. For MSN when I need video capability now I've been using package for aMSN which is pretty nice program.
