panel moves

ok i give up, how does one move the icons in the kde4 panel and make them stay where i want them. right now the clock is gone, and all the icons are lined up to the left side of the panel. i move the icon and it jumps back to where it was. i have used kde3 and am now looking at gnome. while i have not been a gnome user i am currently using it, i don't have to ask questions about what should be intuitive. it seems the kde4 learning curve is steeper due to esoteric functions.

If you need it to work. Update to 4.2.1 by adding the factory repos

i already updated this machine [11.0] to kde4.2. so you are saying in order to make a function like the panel work you need to open a terminal. ok, so be it, what do i type to make the appropriate file. sounds like it's time to open a new notebook, to write down all the stuff to make kde4 work. the older i get the shorter the memory!

You probably have some garbage in the plasma config files. To remove them and start with a fresh new desktop, that will listen to you, do this:
- logout to login screen
- Hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 simultaniously, you'll see the console's login
- Log in as root, with root password
- type: rm /home/YOURUSERNAME/.kde4/share/config/plasma* where YOURUSERNAME is the username you login with.
- type: exit (to return to login)
- Hit Ctrl-Alt-F7 to return to graphic login screen
- Log in, and you have a fresh new desktop, with no hiddeous remains in the plasma files.

OK. Do this:

mv /home/br/.kde4 .kde4_old

This will rename your .kde4 folder to .kde4_old
When you login it will be a totally new session, all your old settings are in .kde4_old

You can import back some settings, but I would leave out as much as you can.

i used the one step method to install kde4.2, i made a note that nscd-2.8-14.4.i586.rpm did not load. as i recall i could not find it in the software manager. perhaps i should try the repos above for 11.0 and reload? if i use the repo manager it should be the 1st line is
