Thread: kde4.2

    Default kde4.2

Im not an expert on how stuff is realeased in opensuse but I was just wondering if kde4.2 will get moved into the stable repos for opensuse 11.1 anytime soon. Or will we have to wait for 11.2 for a stable release of it?

just 'cause it's in the factory repo doesn't mean it is not stable - if
you Google you'll find that a) it is and b) it's much better than 4.1

I think not. Well, that is not the normal policy. 11.1 was released with 4.1.3 so that is the stable repo of kde4 for 11.1
At some point as I understand it, kde4.2 may be given a .dir in the tree all of it's own (well something like that)
I presume 4.3.x will be used in 11.2 and so at some point will be in the factory, which is why 4.2 will move to a .dir of it's own.

I am prepared of course to be corrected?!

As it is - 4.2.1 factory is currently really stable.

Nice thanks for the info. Could one of you post the correct repo url so I can update to 4.2.1? I found a few different urls but wasnt sure which one was the correct one.

    this should help http://mschlander.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/howto-
    install-kde-42-on-opensuse/

there are 3 diff. repo's to use:
    desktop=the base kde4.2 system
    http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...openSUSE_11.1/
community=not official packages(?)including most of the widgets found
    on kde-look
    http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...ctory_Desktop/
extra=a few beta's such as kaffeine, k3b and koffice of which you
might be better off using the kde3 versions

    Apps/openSUSE_11.1/

Delete any of your repos for KDE first. Then add these repos for KDE 4.2.1

    Index of /repositories/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.1

    Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1

If you want extra KDE apps (kde4-k3b, koffice2, kde4-kaffeine)
    Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.1

These three will get you updated to KDE 4.2.1

    Hope this helps!

You have the correct repos as above. I would mention that the kde4 ver's of k3b is not fully functional and you should use k3b for kde3 from Packman, the same with kaffeine too.

I'd agree, even though it's updated daily. It's a pity some of the
    applications are such a mess.
Knode spellchecker is unusable - at least as far as amending spelling.
Konqueror looks a mess, is deathly slow, is missing several features, and
    can be downright dangerous.
Sound-playing is hit-and-miss - definitely miss as far as Mplayer goes. I've
yet to configure systems to try other packages.

Having said that, the base system is a great improvement on 4.1.

I have no issues here. All just dreamy for me.

Lucky you! I assume you don't use Knode, Mplayer, or tabs in Konqueror
    4.2.1.

Just had a reminder pop up this morning from Korganizer for an event on 6th
April. Trouble is, it should only remind me two days beforehand. Not the
first time it's happened either - nine months early is about the biggest
    error so far.
