Installing code saturne under OpenSUSE11.1

I am trying to install code saturne (A CFD open source programme) on my computer running under OpenSUSE11.1.
The installer requires the library med that requires the library hdf5.
During the installation of hdf5-1.6.5, I got the following errors (I am showing the last few lines of the screen dump)

virtual memory exhausted: Cannot allocate memory
make[2]: *** [tselect.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory /home/ahmed/saturne/src/hdf5-1.6.5.build/arch/Linux/test' make[1]: *** [tests] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory /home/ahmed/saturne/src/hdf5-1.6.5.build/arch/Linux’
make: *** [all] Error 2
Error during make of hdf5-1.6.5

Can anyone explain to me how the virtual memory is exhausted?
The hard disk has a 270 GB capacity and 230 GB are avaiable.

Can anyone tell me a possible remedy?

Appreciate your time and collaboration

Hello rhoahmed,

did You try manual installation?

(SALOME-MECA-2009.1-GPL-i386.tgz &
Code saturne 1.4.0 → …/Install/README.txt
worked for me on OpenSUSE11.0 - 32bit)

Regards,
bernhard
