    Default How to open a "Pub" file?

    What besides M$ can I use to open a "Publisher" file?

    Where practical, everyone should be encouraged (educated???) to avoid this horrible proprietary format. I don't have an elegant solution, but a simple online converter (to PDF) is available here:

    It depends what you want out of the file. Where I was only interested in the text, I have been able to recover it by opening Kate and loading it.

    Kate throws up a warning but, if you miss out all the funny characters and copy and paste the text to another file and then simply abandon the 'pub' file, you can recover all the text without formatting perfectly.

    If that works out it sounds like the 'strings' command is perfect for this
    type of thing:

    strings uglyFile.pub > putFileStrings.txt
