Default How to make dependency test from terminal?

Is there any friendly way to make a dependency test or check from the terminal? I've found a couple of ways in the web but are a little too hard core for me or not useful (for example apt-rdepends package_name), and the rpm manual just has too many options for me to figure out what to look for...

--Edit: I'm looking for a way to check dependencies without having to ./configure.
    why do people open source?

I don't think you can check dependencies when installing from source.
For RPM packages, do the following :

    rpm -ivh --test package.rpm

If there is an issue, rpm will let you know.

    Hi,

Not the same preoccupation here, but i think it is very similar.
    .
I'm looking (for a while now) for a way to determine/know all the required dependencies of a package before installing (or downloading them) because my system is a a weird mix between binary packages and self-compiled pieces of softwares/libs. So that i'll be able to ignore some rpm/zypper dependencies since i can tell if i already made a custom compilation.
    .
With apt (on ubuntu or debian), you know what are the dependencies when you search for example a package on Ubuntu -- Ubuntu Packages Search or Debian -- Packages
    I miss those informations on Software.openSUSE.org .
    .
Should i open another thread? Email the community manager? Bugzilla ? other ???
