kde 4.1 to kde 4.2

How would I go about updating to the latest kde verison? I have

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/STABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1

in my repositories, will it update on its own?

You need to disable any stable 4.1.3 repos

then do the Oneclick
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1/KDE4-DEFAULT.ymp

That is for 11.1

to openSuse 11.1 is not official KDE 4.2-packets - sorry! …only old 4.1.3
but from factory you can update not-official 4.2.x-developper-versions

openSuses new 11.2-version incklude KDE 4.3, but it comes so late than november …but 2009

That means either 4.1.3 or 4.2-developperversion or waiting ~8 months…

…someones others distributions comes 4.2 now spring and 4.3-KDE fall (september) before than to openSuse 11.2 in november…

If were official, would KDE update to the latest version with Stable repos.?

Have a look at KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE which explains the status of the different repositories and then decide what you want to do.

I’ve tried to follow your instructions, caf4926.
I disabled OpenSuse 11.1 update and Desktop 4.1 stable repos as well and then I used the OCI default from KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE.

AWESOME - results in a huuge mess of missing dependencies. :frowning:
Any suggestions?

TheMask.

I never said disable Updates, just any 4.1 build service repo’s.

The repo’s you need for 4.2

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Factory_Desktop

Optional:
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.1

You will need oss, non-oss, updates, and probably you will have Packman, nvidia/ati?, mozilla,
(That’s about it)

Post the dependency error here
there is an expert save to file option on the error box.

Good to know. Would it be possible to UPGRADE the whole system somehow?

TheMask.***

How do you mean the whole system?

You are running 11.1 are you?? So updates come via the Update repo! Applying updates via software management in Yast, you can select ‘system’ or individual repo’s and do update all in this list unconditionally.

Yes. You just add the mentioned repositories, start the software-installer, choose Packages - All packages - Update if a newer version is available. This will update anything that’s got a newer version available, in your case the KDE4 packages from the newly added repos (+ whatever else is upgradable)

Sorry guys. I think I need some small help on this. Err… I’ve added the three repositories mentioned by caf4926 above.
Still, I am not sure, which of the other repositories to exactly to disable May i activate them afterwards or would deleting be a better option? This is the Output ofTheMask@superpussy:~> zypper lr

THANKS for staying with me guys…

TheMask.

Edit as above and then:
I could do with zypper lr -u

Huge THANKS. Now one more question before I go for the upgrade: The places were it says “deleted one…” are just for clear view, right? I don’t have to take any action there…
And do you mean you could upgrade via zypper lr -u? Is that the same as unsing the official KDE OCI?

TheMask.

Where I quote Delete One, I mean I removed some from your list and you need to do that with your list.

zypper lr -u

will give me the complete url of the repo’s you have, so I can be sure you have the right ones.

You are a tremendous help here in the forum. I VERY much apprecoiate your effort. May I donate some mopney to you? :stuck_out_tongue:
On the list below your mentioned repositories are already disabeled.

TheMask.

Now, please tell me how to proceed…

TheMask.

superpussy  Umm.

Now open Yast Software Management
Filter by repositories
as here: except this is packman selected
http://thumbnails14.imagebam.com/2887/fc587928864711.gif](http://www.imagebam.com/image/fc587928864711/)

You need to select kde4 desktop (it’s 2nd one in your list)
Now, you see the ‘Packages’ tab from the top, select ‘update all in this list unconditionally’

if you get any dependency issues, save them and post here.

Do the same with the kde4 community repo, number 6 in your list (But you may not have anything installed from there yet).

Of course… never seen a superpussy? ^^
I guess you use KDE 4.2 already - your screenshot looks good so far. Oh, and by the way: How late is it in your country right now, buddy? Over here it’s 17:55.

I’ve selected the required tabs and ticked ‘update all in this list unconditionally’.
