Kontact conversion from KDE3 to KDE4

I’ve just found another hiccough in my Kontact setup, probably a file I
missed copying from the .kde to .kde4 locations. What a shambles SUSE has
made of this!

As far as I can find out, the location of the configuration and data files
for Kontact is different in SUSE than in other distributions. This means
that when Kmail, say, is first used in KDE4, it can’t find the KDE3 files to
convert to KDE4 because they are in the wrong place.

I tried copying everything in but that caused failures in various Kontact
programs so I had to start anew and copy files in small doses until I
thought I had a complete system that wouldn’t fall over in a heap. As I’ve
said, it looks like I missed at least one file.

This is no sort of system to appeal to anyone other than geeks. How can SUSE
expect unsophisticated users to be attracted to a system that will need a
computer expert in every time there’s a major software upgrade such as this?
