i was searching for preloader for suse and i came across
SUPER preloading - openSUSE
the links are dead.i am presently using 11.0.are there any similar applications that do the work.??
Hi,
there is some package for preloading already installed which prepares preload as a daily cronjob. I don’t know which applications profits from this, if it really works and how much the speed improvements are compared to application start without preload.
Hope this helps
ya…thats the problem i would like to add some of the applications i use frequently and i dont know how to add them.and above all do the ones available by default work??
i tried searching and all i could get was that link i posted in the first post and that too for 10.x version.
Hi,
maybe SUPER preloading - openSUSE this is what you are searching for. You might also find Re: [opensuse] Preload HowTo interesting.
Hope this helps
thats the same link i was refering to.but all the links to the scripts are dead.thats the reason i was looking for an alternate.
Hi,
no they aren’t dead. Look at the contents of the preload package:
/etc/cron.daily/suse.de-update-preload
/etc/init.d/boot.blktrace
/etc/init.d/earlyxdm
/etc/init.d/stopblktrace
/etc/init.d/waitfornm
/etc/preload.d
/etc/preload.d/Firefox
/etc/preload.d/Khelpcenter
/etc/preload.d/OpenOffice
/etc/preload.d/gdm
/etc/preload.d/kde
/etc/preload.d/kdm
/etc/preload.d/kdm.auto
/opt/kde3
/opt/kde3/share
/opt/kde3/share/autostart
/opt/kde3/share/autostart/appspreload.desktop
/sbin/preload
/sbin/print-bmap
/usr/bin/appspreloader.sh
/usr/bin/e2block2file
/usr/bin/e2remapblocks
/usr/bin/preloadblocks
/usr/bin/prepare_preload
/usr/bin/update_preload
/usr/sbin/bootcache
/usr/share/doc/packages/preload
/usr/share/doc/packages/preload/bootfaster.diff
/var/cache/preload
As you can see all described scripts are in the package except pasre_strace which is on the website. You have to look out for the sections without PePr.
Hope this helps
