Default How to enable compositing support in KDE4.2?

configure desktop (Desktop - System Settings) --> Desktop
    Message indicates:
Compositing is not supported on your system.
Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available.

I can't find XComposite or XDamage as a package to install with Software Management.

    Enabled repositories include:
    Index of /repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_11.1
    Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1

Thank you in advance for your help.

in /etc/X11/xorg.conf add the lines below at the bottom of the file then restart the X server by logging out and logging in again

    Code:
    Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "Enable"
    EndSection

Sorry. I don't know how the frowning icon got there. Here's a few smiles.

open terminal and become root and type:

    vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    for vi editor:
    i-insert data to file
    esc(key)- to exit writing mode
press shift and hit Z twice to save the file.

    Or

hit alt+f2 to start krunner and then type:

    Code:
    kwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf
To view the file without making changes (even if you try to make a change it will fail since the xorg.conf can only be changed by root.)

    Code:
    kdesu kwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf
If you want to make changes.

This is if you prefer kwrite.

    Take Care,

    Welcome,

Please do not reuse old threads. Start a new one, be very clear in describing your problem. For now: on 11.2 an xorg.conf is not always needed. For desktop effects you may need a 3rd party videocard driver. Please state as much info as you can, see my signature. Include brand and model of videocard.
