Should I Change Distro's?

I’m using 11.1 with a Intel 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv Integrated Graphics Adapter.

I use 2 Computers Actively-I have one in reserve with the same motherboard but with a S3 Graphics chip-More about that later.

When I install with the DVD,
it installs OK except that when it is configuring hardware it locks up-
nothing to see but Bars & Lines of color(?)

On my Dell, when I hit the power button at this point, it shuts down- and starts up OK and if I tell it to skip the config it starts up OK-but the taskbar is blank.
But on the Compaq when I hit the power button it kills it cold, and when I tell it to skip the config I get a Black login. When I login and startx all I get is a Black screen.

Then I started experimenting,
Failsafe works,
If I remove the Arguments from the bottom of the default on Grub (something about VGA)
it works,
I have got it working temporarily, By using YaST I was able to remove the argument
permanently and it works,But both are still Glitchy and slow.
At first I thought that it was the dvd so I downloaded the live CD and tried and I still get those color bars-and it locks up.
It is not the CD because I tried it on the S3
and it worked GREAT (the taskbar too!)

So should I change to Debian?
Or can this be fixed?

BTW
on the S3 Computer
AMD 3000+
256 Ram

Compaq
Intel Celeron 2.6 Ghz
512 Ram

Dell
Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz
768 Ram

Thanks!!
