    Default System Log Being Filled by Unknown Source

    Hi,

    I just checked my system log and it seems to be filled by many many lines as follows:-

    "Jan 16 00:41:17 IBMTPT42 kernel: sr0: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
    Jan 16 00:42:16 IBMTPT42 syslog-ng[1739]: last message repeated 58 times
    Jan 16 00:43:17 IBMTPT42 kernel: sr0: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive..."

    I do not have any CD Player running as far as I can tell.

    As you can see they are logged every minute or so. Could somebody please tell me what is going on and how to stop this before the file takes up a significant chunk of drive space.

    Check your taskbar -- is a program called KsCD running (or similar)?

    I'd say it's that permission problem with accessing the CD/DVD writer.
    How does a linux geek make love??

    - rtfm; unzip; strip; touch; finger; mount; fsck; more; yes; umount; zip; sleep;

    Hi and thanks. Yes I had checked that and quit the app so there was no icon in the task bar but the symptom persisted, which is why I posted the query. Today after a reboot however the problem has gone.
    I do not remember which CD player I had been trying as I had just been checking a CD but surely this is going to be a problem for those who like to leave apps permanently in taskbar for convenience. I do not feel competent to report this as a bug but there must be a better way!
    Thanks again for the reply.
