Holly Cow you are right, it is there it 4.10 I love krunner or whatever it is behind that search bar, KDE is full of nice little surprises.

I'm probably just an old crank. I expect developers to put effort into making things obvious. Obviously a wrong attitude.
When I first started using KDE4, this seemed very natural (i.e. obvious). I did not have to go to any forum or read hints or do any figuring out.

It still works pretty much the same as it did back then (several years ago).

Ahh, ok there wizard. I could have sworn I tried that out at one point and Obviously did not find it. Thank goodness we have such wiz-bangs as you to point out how dumb it would be to miss such a thing.

you can suggest such a new feature, here
    https://features.opensuse.org/

though, maybe the feature already exists, in a convoluted way by
accessing the documentation/help, kinda like this:

No really nrickert is right, If you type "default" into the search bar of the Kickoff menu you will see "Default Applications" pop up as one of the choices. You can find some of the major meta types to change in there.
Like I said in my previous post I had tried this before at some point and never came up with a good return from krunner but now it seems to work.

I think it depends on what you are looking for.

I was new to KDE4, and I saw the "Configure Desktop". So I explored it, to see what I could configure.

If I had started with "Drat, I don't like this default browser, so how do I change it?" then I might have had trouble finding the control.
