Default Cannot change resolution to anything higher than 800x600

Hi, I'm new to OpenSuse which I like and like to keep on my laptop but I've got a problem. I can't change my resolution higher than 800x600 and is bugging me because it's hard to get everything I want on screen.

I know my laptop allows 1024x786 because xp had no troubles with it, I've also tried Ubuntu but got fed up of my laptop crashing on boot randomly and still had the same issue with the display.

Here is what I know, it's a problem with X11. it didn't configure my display right and I've also tried making a new mode in xrandr but I can't understand how to use it.

Could someone please help me with this problem as I don't like my screen with a black border and not being fullscreen.

    Specs are as follows:

The Laptop is a HP Pravilion N5441
The graphics chipset of the top of my head is a Trident CyberBlade DVD ( Not exactly sure about that )
Cpu is a 850Mhz AMD Duron
Ram is currently at 256mb, 512 max
and it has a dvd rom drive.

    Try
    hwinfo --gfxcard
That should reveal the video chip.
