Thread: KNetwork Manager (11.1 KDE 3.5)

Default KNetwork Manager (11.1 KDE 3.5)

Okay, I just upgraded to 11.1 on my laptop, after finally installing it I have some questions about the latest version of NetworkManager. In 10.3 it used to show a dialogue with info such as IP addresses, traffic, packets, and signal strength for wifi. If I right clicked it would show the menu with different wifi networks listed and I could connect to them from here. I do not like how the new network manager works? Is there some way i can configure it to work like the one in 10.3, and if not how would I install the version from 10.3.

    No.

Is your network manager not working?

It should show you the available locations. Strange...I noticed some quirks in my upgrade from 11.0 to 11.1, and ended up doing a clean install, which fixed most of the quirks.

It's working, but I think it a newer version? Anyway, I don't like it, it seems to remove features like, mine only shows the network I am currently connected to. It has also seemed to remove this dialog, http://michaeleberhart.net/linux/ope...orkManager.png

Can I revert to a previous networkmanager? (I thought u said no) and if not is there any way to get at this and can I make it look like this again? http://michaeleberhart.net/linux/ope...orkManager.png t

It might be possible. you would have to delete the existing one. And see if you can get the source code for an older version and build it yourself from a konsole.

Do you know where I can download the old source code?

You might find it in the 10.3 repos
    Index of /distribution/10.3/repo/src-oss/suse/src

Though I would advise against this approach and look for an app than can provide the info you require.

knemo - for example, usually in Packman, might do. But it's not there at the moment, I'm not sure if it will be. But will certainly be available here

Or one can just use wicd. Work like a charm for me.
You just have to disable knetworkmanager from Yast > Network, and switch to traditional ifup method for dealing with network cards.
