Default Hi and my first problem!

Hi I just installed openSUSE 11.1 because of how easy it was to install
VirtualBox. I'm really impressed with this distro.

I can't install skype from the rpm I got from the skype site.

    I get the following messages:

Package /tmp/skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586.rpm could not be installed.

    Details:
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: warning:
/tmp/skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key
    ID d66b746e
    error: Failed dependencies:
    libQtCore.so.4 is needed by skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586
    libQtDBus.so.4 is needed by skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586
    libQtGui.so.4 is needed by skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586
    libQtNetwork.so.4 is needed by skype-2.0.0.72-suse.i586

I tried installing some qt4 packages but it didn't help.

I'm new to the distro and I don't understand where and how to find
packages so hopefully I'm missing something simple. The libraries I
found that did look the right ones were for SUSE 11.0 and it wouldn't
    let me install them.

    Any ideas guys? Thanks.

    Randall

    Hi & welcome! Randall,

Which qt packages did you install. I haven't used skype since 10.3,
but an older wiki page states:

You will need at least these packages before installing Skype.

    Code:
    --------------------

    su -
    zypper install libqt4 libqt4-x11 libqt4-dbus-1 libsigc++2

    --------------------

If you are running on a 64-bit platform, you will also need the *-32bit
RPM packages, since Skype is a 32-bit application.

    Code:
    --------------------

    zypper install libqt4-32bit libqt4-dbus-1-32bit libqt4-x11-32bit libsigc++2-32bit

    --------------------

Might be that covers it and the Skype install will run.

The wiki page can be found here : 'Skype HOWTO - openSUSE'

    Hope that helps,
    Wj

I installed Skype 32-bit on my 11.1 x86_64 platform the other day. The
only two extra packages I needed were:

    > libqt4-32bit
    > libqt4-x11-32bit

    HTH.

Hi. You can use yast to find your dependencies. Yast → Software
→ install or delete software. Enter your search item in the search
field and check the "prm provides" chechbox.
To run skype on a 64-bit system you have to install the 32-bit
    libraries.

Thanks guys! That was my problem...I have the 64 bit SUSE running and
    didn't realize I needed the 32bit libs.

All's well after following your suggestions. Thanks for the lightning
    fast help!

It installed but I can't hear anything and the mic doesn't work. Anybody
got this working on 11.1 yet?

Ok, I ran alsaconfig as root. Then I turned off pulse audio (disconnect)
from the gnome menu. Then I had to set the devices on skype to intel,0
and. i then set the levels in "volume control" for HDA Intel (Alsa mixer
device) and played with the settings until I got an acceptable balance
    between hiss and volume.

    It is now working.
