Save graphical settings

I have set my desktop and effects how i want. But everytime i reboot or go into shell it resets all my settings…
how to set this to keep?

i hope that make sense :-/
Thanks,
-Matt
Suse 11 64bit kde 3.5

Boot to runlevel3 (clear any arguments there and just type a 3)

login as user
then go su and enter your password

now run

sax2 -r

NVIDIA - openSUSE

forgive my ignorance.

But when i hit ctrl+alt+f1 and go into init3 and back into init5 it kicks all my settings out :frowning:
So if i understand you correctly, and i do that but dont go back into init5 and do the sax2 -r my settings will stick?
Thanks,
-matt

we need to be init3, totally out of X to run sax2 -r

I’m not saying it will work for sure, what graphics device do you have
post your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Ah - I think i see whats happening.

If I go into my x configuration utility manager “Configure X 11 system” - It tells me the complete wrong information (just like the xorg.conf file does)

BUT, if I go into Nvidia configuration manager and select ‘save to xorg.conf’ -> and i click save. It tells me it cannot overwrite it.

So, i’m guessing I need to figure out how to take the file I just saved on my deskto - the correct xorg.conf, and copy it into the etc/x11/ folder.

Does that make sense?
I’m even wondering if that would work…

Any ideas?
Still want me to post the two xorg.conf files?

Thanks,
-Matt

Got it,

What I did was run nvidia-settings as root via alt+f2.
Then once in there it would let me save the xorg.conf file

So, now when i reboot i have all my settings for display. But display only.

How do I save the check box for desktop effects? I have to recheck the box on every x restart or reboot. Same with compiz as well…

What you think?

Depends which desktop you use, kde3, kde4, gnome

kde3.5 on suse 11

the setting is in the control center
kde components
session manager

change the window manager to compiz

control center?

I’m not sure what that is exactly? Where would i find that?

thx, you’ve been so much help!
-Matt

ah okay. It’s “configure desktop - personal settings”
